Simi Valley Resident Posts Blistering ‘Common Sense’ Rant About Fire Evacuation — and It’s Going Viral

“We’re all praying for the firefighters, God bless them. But let’s use our heads, people,” writes local man Dave Kowalski in the Simi Valley Community Watch Facebook group. His post, which has already been shared over 4,000 times, blasts what he calls “zero-common-sense behavior” during the fast-moving brush fire near Santa Susana Pass.

“I watched three neighbors race out of their cars to film the flames with their iPhones while the fire was literally crossing the road. You know what happens when fire hits gasoline? Boom. Put the phone down and drive,” Kowalski writes.

He also slams those who ignored evacuation warnings until the last minute: “If you wait until you see the orange glow in your backyard to pack your photo albums and your Chihuahua, that’s not bravery. That’s a rescue call waiting to happen. Be ready to go before the alert. That’s common sense.”

The rant closes with a jab at “overpreppers” who block narrow canyon roads with RVs full of bottled water: “If you’ve got a 40-foot diesel truck in your driveway, you better know how to get it up the hill in reverse. Because nobody’s gonna push it for you.”

Comments are split between praise and pushback, but Kowalski’s post has clearly struck a nerve. As one commenter put it: “He’s not wrong. We all need a little more common sense and a little less panic.”
